January 2023 - Monthly Round Up

Updated: Feb 1

Is it too late for Happy New Year? 100% yes but are we saying it anyway? Yes. We kicked off 2023 in style with a bunch of fantastic releases involving 23rd Precinct Music clients.

The best news to start the year was the confirmation of our publishing extensions with Jim McCulloch, Sarah Jane Neild, Tim Butler, Sharon Freundlich, Elliot Chapman, John Kirk, Iain McGinty, Futuristic Polar Bears, Jessica Alici, Stuart McInnes & Joy Farrukh.

2022 was a defining year for 23rd Precinct's Ryan Sewell with his involvement in 'In The Dark' by Purple Disco Machine and Sophie & The Giants reaching glorious heights including gold and platinum status across numerous European countries. He kicked off 2023 with his new project Prince Street Bodega droppings tracks 'Shake It Out' and 'Running For Cover' . The latter landing in numerous editorial playlists including Spotify's Nu Funk & New Music Friday.

One of 23rd's most recent signees Gary Dillon also got off to a great start this year with his collaboration with Tom Ferry and Alimish reaching BBC Radio Wale's A List after a series of BBC Introducing plays. The pop dance track was co-written and co-produced by Gary and released on Sony Music's One Seven division. Check out 'Medicine' here.

January also seen electronic legend Paul Denton remix Gary's collaboration with Ben Gold & Yasmin Jane. 'Searching (For A Kinder Love)' was one of the top trance tracks in 2022 and Paul Denton brought the fire on this remix adaptation.

Christian Boshell, better known under his alias Phraktal was quite out the 2023 blocks with a new hypnotic release, aptly named 'Hypnotic Arts'. Christian is known for his adventurous analog set ups and affinity for sci-fi-esque soundscapes. 'Hypnotic Arts' is another great example of the Belfast based producers' explorative sound.

January marked the triumphant return of Scottish pop icons The Bluebells. Our writers Robert Hodgens, David McCluskey and Ken McCluskey put pen to paper after a 38 year hiatus. Their album 'In The 21st Century' is set for release in 2023 on Last Night From Glasgow. The debut single 'Gone Tomorrow' was released earlier this month.

Richie Blacker unveiled his own record label Mess Express Records in 2022. His highly anticipated first release dropped this month in the form of 'Eternal Euphoria' which is a quintessential quality production. Old style rave breakbeat with a modern flurry of adaptations likes catchy vocals and sound effects. Check it out here.

We had the pleasure of working with a new writer in Daniel Robinson for his release with Colorize. We were introduced to Daniel through another connection and he blew us away with his soulful tones. He co-wrote and featured on 'Into The Night' by Kapera, which was released on Enhanced Music imprint Colorize earlier this month.

Our writer/producer/artist Jardin Owens released 'Ain't No Love' on Future Sounds Of Egypt imprint Argento. This new addition to Jardin's growing catalogue has been gaining major support in the DJ world and has been played on BBC Introducing as well as a number of other dance radio shows. We can't wait for more music from this young producer in 2023.

David Forbes is a legend in the electronic scene. Last year seen him claim a top #40 spot on 1001Tracklists top 100 DJs - no easy feat! 2023 is already shaping up to be a great year with a bunch of live shows already booked across the world. David released his remix of Ben Gold's 'Follow The King' track on Armada earlier this month.

Fresh off the back of signing his publishing extension, John Kirk released new music on his De-Funkt Recordings label. 'Paradise Circus' is a collaboration with Mark Jackson and inspire you to the dancefloor in any nightclub. Full of funk and great dance energy.

We also seen 23rd Precinct clients Danko shred a couple of amazing live performances this month with support slots for The Joy Hotel (Edinburgh) and Dirty Honey (Glasgow). More music is on the way from this rock 'n' roll quartet in 2023.

23rd Precinct's famous in-house record label Limbo Records celebrates its' 30th anniversary this year. Does that make you feel old? The team are hard at work preparing a series of releases. Sign up toe the Limbo Records mailing list and more will be revealed soon.
