October 2020 - Monthly Round Up

Updated: Nov 9, 2020

Another plentiful month of new music and new writing collaborations from the 23rd Precinct Music camp. Ten months into an unusual 2020, our writers continue to deliver an array of exceptionally strong songs and we continue to be very proud of everything they do.

Dubai based songwriter/producer/artist Scott Forshaw kicked off an explosively busy month for 23rd Precinct's writers with 'Only For Tonight'. Collaborating with another member of the 23rd Precinct team - Charlie Sanderson resulting in a poptastic dance phenomenon. We want to thank the team at Gemstone Records / Revealed Recordings for believing in this track.

Our writers Daniel Pearce & Shena Winchester teamed up with Germany's Point Blvnk to bring us 'Make Me Feel'. A feel good uplifting reggaeton inspired track released on Panta Rhei - the track has had a remarkable reception since it's release in the latter half of the month.

Our long running songwriter Ant Thomaz was back on feature artist duty. This time with writing credits on pioneering Glasgow jazz collective 'Nimbus Sextet's latest album 'Dreams Fulfilled'. Ant gaining writing & performance credits on 'Lily White' & 'Klara'. The album was released on Giles Peterson's Acid Jazz Records.

Our writer Stephen Kirkwood was exceptionally busy this month with new music out himself as well as a cool summer house co-write with 23rd Precinct's Paul McCabe. 'Walk Away' captures that much missed summer sunset atmosphere we have so longed for this year. Check out the track 'Walk Away' out now on Open House Records. Stephen also released two new tracks under his own namesake. Firstly, 'All About You' - a hard hitting trance track was released on John O'Callaghan's Subculture mid-way through the month. The end of October ended strongly for Stephen as he revealed the debut track on his own SKapade Records. 'Hawk Eye' is a melodic techno masterpiece - soaked on that gritty underground swag which Stephen has become renown for. Check out 'Hawk Eye' here.

Our writer Emma Brammer had her 2020 release 'Right Time' remixed by deep house heavy hitters Kraak & Smaak. The pair adopted a smooth 70s disco approach for this particular release - released on Soundcolours we give 10/10. Check out the remix here.

There was new music released on Glasgow Underground courtesy of our writer Tom Caruso. October treated us to two new tracks in the shape of 'Be Sure Of It' & 'Give It Up'. Both tracks are assured house favourites with Tom his signature fusion techniques, incorporating deep house, disco, soul and sprinklings of tech house in there.

It seems no month goes by without our writer Ryan Sewell supplying at least one co-write. This month was no different, another string of superb releases which included 'Retreat' with Matt Kerley released on Blackhole imprint Gameroom Recordings. Another collaboration with Matt provided us with acid infused tech-house goodness on 'Fake' released on Black Lizard.

More great news for Ryan as he teamed up with fellow 23rd Precinct signing Harley Sanders to deliver an astoundingly tantalising progressive house track 'Starlight' released on Enhanced Music's powerhouse progressive imprint Colorize.

3 tracks in a month? Not enough for Ryan as he finished October with another release - this time collaborating with another 23rd Precinct writer Alan La Porte. The pair teamed up a few months back and have worked together numerous times throughout 2020. This latest expedition 'Give Me Flames' undoubtedly captured the minds of Italian based label EGO who swooped in and signed the track without a flinch.

23rd Precinct's flagship progressive house label Limbo Records continues to go from strength to strength. With a series of BBC Radio1 plays already under it's belt this year, Limbo continued on that upward trajectory with fresh new remixes from Israeli producer Choopie & Brighton based Tim French who both left their stamp on the 92' classic 'I Trance You'. You can check out all the latest releases on Limbo on Beatport here.

The aforementioned Choopie also had original music courtesy of an exclusive Amsterdam Dance Event compilation. 'Mantaraya' peaked in the top 20 of Beatport's Hype Chart - you can download it here.

Our synthwave extraordinaire Ben Macklin returned with a sensational new album under his Duett moniker. A simple stunning collection of tracks which showcase Ben's songwriting and production credentials. 'Outlines' is out now on Ben's own label Modal Recordings.

Aside from music publishing, 23rd Precinct's Kayleigh McLaughlan was part of an amazing event - Dumfries Music Conference. Speaking about a music industry post-covid, Kayleigh spoke about her role as label manager of Limbo Records & First Run Records as well all things Resonate Music Conference.

Resonate is now taking place online & with the line up recently revealed that includes Head of BBC Music, Grammy Award Winning songwriter and French streaming giants Deezer. Find out more here
