September 2020 - Monthly Round Up

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

Before we could even blink, September has been and gone. The past 30 days has given us a phenomenal collection of new music from 23rd Precinct HQ.

Way back at the beginning of the month, our writer Rachel Barror released an acoustic version of her heart tugging track 'Ground Up'. A stunning version of an incredible track which emphatically captures the mood of 2020. Click here to listen.

Our singing cellist Calum Ingram digitally released the b-side to his exuberant cover of Thin Lizzy's Dancing In The Moonlight - his original track 'Demon Eyes' has been quick off the mark, impressing across streaming platforms and gaining Calum a number of credible reviews and interviews. You can order a 7" vinyl copy of Calum's double A-side here, why not pick up a t-shirt whilst you are there!

Ben Macklin who works under the alias Duett released a sensational album simply titled 'Instrumentals' on his label Modal Recordings. An array of soothing synthwave instrumental tracks, perfect for those precious peaceful moments. There was also much welcomed BBC Introducing support for Ben & another one of 23rd Precinct's writers - Emma Brammer and their track 'Stay With Me' highlighted in last months' round up. Check out the whole Duett catalogue written & produced by 23rd's Ben Macklin here.

Our Northern-Irish songwriting machine Ryan Sewell, provided us with a selection of beauties this month. Another sensational collaborative effort with Australia's Alex Preston brought us 'Where It's At' & 'Moments' with the latter gaining a plethora of support which included Jax Jones. The double A-side was released on Nhan Solo's Mother Recordings. We also seen Ryan team up with Andy Reid & Hatiras on 'Find My Way' - a soulful infused house track released on Phoenix Records. The final days of September brought us a highly anticipated collaboration with London's CASSIMM - with Ryan on co-writing and vocal duty on 'Hey Trevor'. An unquestionable tech house banger released on Altra Moda.

David Forbes had an incredible month. His late August release 'Splice' spent 4 weeks at the #1 spot in Beatport Trance, fending off competition from the likes Aly & Fila, Ciaran McAuley and others. The end of the month brought us another stealth trance track in 'Sub Zero'. David teamed up with Welsh trance producer Will Rees on this one and was released via Outburst Records. You can download and support it here.

Our writer Alan La Porte has been on a roll in recent months with his Covenants project signing tracks to Gemstone, EGO & Uprise Music. This month, Alan released a superb cover of 'Perfect Motion' by Sunscreem. Check out Alan's interpretation alongside River on here - released on On It Recordings.

Our writer, producer, lecturer, mentor and all round good guy, Frank Farrell had a busy month with a string of releases and news that he was promoted to Head of A&R for Toolbox House Records. Nik Denton's 'Nowhere Left To Hide EP' was co-written & co-produced by Frank. You can download it here. The latter end of the month seen Frank release more music under his techno alias - Dagda. A spellbinding intense techno warehouse filler in 'Kafro' was released on Boxt Records.

Richie Blacker continued his upwards trajectory with more BBC Radio 1 support from Danny Howard for his remix of Limbo Records 'I Trance You'. September seen a subsequent release from Richie in the form of 'T D K 9 0 / Your Granny Tapes Robot Wars' released on Stripped Recordings. The double a-side is brimming with 90s classic stabs, a healthy dash of acid influences and breakbeat accompaniments. You can download here.

We're so buzzing to announce some incredible releases coming up for our Dubai based writer/producer Scott Forshaw. In the few short months Scott's been with us, he's dazzled with his production and songwriting skills. This month we say him collaborate with Fizzo & Jay on the track 'Go All Night' released on Perfect Havoc's Organised Chaos. A relentlessly catchy house number featuring Mila Falls on vocals under his collaborative alias Ruff Club alongside 23rd' Joe Beck.

There was new music from our Dutch writer/producer Mustafa Alici. A re-brand from the trance to the techno world is working a treat for Mustafa and his NEM3SI$ alias with a string of successful and his latest offering 'The Shadow Master' is another excellent demonstration of melodic techno. Check out the whole of Mustafa's NEM3SI$ back-catalogue here.

There was also new music from our writer John Kirk. Under his Jay Kay moniker, John released 'Together', a collaboration with Mark Jackson. Released on John's own label De-Funkt Recordings, check out this latest offering here.

We were pleased to extend our long running relationship with David McCluskey. One quarter of the legendary group The Bluebells, David now does incredible work the Sense Scotland and Sensatronics Lab.

We also welcome London-based producer Daniel Laing to the roster. Daniel has impressed with his technical ability and recent cuts with Toolroom sealedthe deal as we welcomed him to our publishing roster. We proudly set up our writer Sarah-Jane Johnson with a friend of 23rd Precinct's Winston Sela of Sela Songs. The pair's co-writing partnership is off to a stormer with a track already cut with an American country songstress, set for release in 2021.
